Human Resource Management

     Human Resource Management is a vital part of a corporation. Organizations are people and cannot exist independent of them. Think of all the corporations which we are familiar, they all have one thing common: PEOPLE. And to manage them we need Human Resource management. Human Resource Department plays a very important roll in boosting the productivity of any organization. The responsibilities of Human Resource Department are Head hunting in which they practice different talent search operations to recruit efficient employees for the operations. Then comes screening and planning.

     Organizing and retaining a productive and efficient human force is not an easy job. To get the desired objective, a HR Department always has some plans according to the company’s policy. They always keep an eye on the job market and skill development process of their own employees. Hiring new employees is one the most difficult task any corporation can face. One simply does not hire a worker; one also hires his positive and negative points. Corporation extensively manages HR Department so that it can do day to day operations related to employees. In the hiring process, the HR Department takes interviews for the process of head hunting. At the end HR Department offer job to the selected applicants.

“HR Planning to Strategic Planning of the Corporation”

     Planning is the very heart of corporate management, for it helps managers reduce the uncertainty of the future and thereby do a better job of coping with the future. Planning leads to success of the corporation. “HR Services help organizations do a better job of coping with change – technological, social, regulatory and environmental.”

     HR Department helps managers to define the organization’s objectives and thus provides context, meaning and directions for employees’ work. It ensures that all employees know the overall goals of the corporation. In this way employees can tie more effectively what they are doing to the organization’s overall objectives. A great deal of research indicates that the process of the defining objectives leads to better employee’s performance and satisfaction. Without objectives of the corporation, effective control is not possible. It is one of the main functions of the Human Resource Services.

“ Modern Human Resource Services”

     One can’t ignore the value of Human Resource Services in today’s modern corporate world. One can define modern Human Resource Services as follows.

  • Defining company philosophy – why does the business exist, what unique contribution does it make, what business should the company be in?
  • Formulating company and divisional statements of identity, purpose and objectives.
  • Evaluating the company’s strengths and weaknesses in order to identify the factors that may enhance or limit the choice of any future course of action.
  • Determining the organization design (structure, process, interrelationships) appropriate for managing the company’s chosen business.
  • Developing appropriate strategies for achieving objectives (e.g. time-based points of measurement), including qualitative and quantitative sub goals.

Recruitment Planning by HR Department

     Recruitment can be defined as – organizations searching for prospective employees. It is of the basic function of Human Resource Services.

     The international labor organization (ILO) lays down standards that enclose various labor affairs including, child labor, disabled workers, discrimination, equality of treatment, freedom of association, human rights, maternity protection, pensions, and the elimination of forced labor. In the light of the resolutions passed by the ILO all the member countries formulate the laws for the labors. Therefore most of the laws in all these countries are generally identical. The ILO however supervises the application of endorsed conventions in national law and practice. Americans with Disabilities Act signed on July 26 1990 is comprehensive law intended to make American Society easier to get to people with disabilities (Felder, 23-29).

     This law directs the employer for the modifications, which may comprise of streamlining jobs, changing the design of workstations, or altering the equipment for the disabled. Employment features are required to consist of the function procedures, employment, salary, benefits, and all other aspects of employment. Medical examinations are extremely in time. this act restricts an employer, state and local governments, employment agencies and labor unions from discriminating against individuals who are qualified with disabilities in job application procedures, employment, removal from service, development in their career, compensation, job training, and other terms, conditions and privileges of employment (Bundy, 111-113).

     An employer is supposed to provide an accommodation to the known disability of applicant or employee if it would not be a source an "undue hardship" on the employer's business. An employer is not bound to lower the production standards to make an accommodation, nor is an employer required to provide personal use items such as glasses or hearing aids. The law also describes in detail the essential services consisting of state and local government functionaries, the National Railroad Passenger Corporation, and other traveler authorities. These services cannot refuse services to people with disabilities, involvement in program or activities that are accessible to people without disabilities. In addition, public transport systems, such as public transit buses, must be reachable to persons with disabilities.
